In addition to Surf City USA, Huntington Beach has become the newest mecca for beach volleyball – specifically the Southside (south side of the pier). It’s where any day of the week – particularly Tuesday and Thursday mornings, you’ll find a majority of the AVP elite practicing and training.
On any given Saturday or Sunday, if you think you have what is takes to play on the SouthSide’s feature Court – Court 1, you just may find yourself playing against AVP 2005 MVP Jake Gibb, or the likes of Matt Prosser, or Southside’s own local hero and AVP’s rising star – Ryan Mariano.
SouthSide Beachwear was formed by Gary Schreiber aka “the Mayor” of Court 1, his beautiful daughter Christina, along with Ryan Mariano. The idea was not only to be able to wear our beachwear, but to help via sponsor some of the local “struggling” professional beach volleyball player(s). Currently, SouthSide Beachwear is the official sponsor of Ryan Mariano & his new partner Larry Witt, along with Ty Tramblie & Chad Turner. So come by the South side of the pier to Court 1 and sign up on
the infamous “waiting list” to play or just come to just say hello – you’ll find us SouthSide locals, although far from what most people would describe as “normal”, we are entertaining and hospitable.
